Guilin is located in the northeastern corner of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The city was founded during the Qin dynasty over 2,000 years ago, prospered in Tang and Song, flourished in Ming and Qing. The climate is damp monsoon climate; warm and rainy; long frost-free period, plenty of sunshine and clear division of four seasons.

Guilin has long been famous for its limestone karst hills. Formed more than 200 million years ago when the oceans receded from this area, the towers sprout from a patchwork of paddy fields and flowing streams, creating a dreamy, seductive landscape that leaves few souls unstirred. Time and space meet here to produce a masterpiece of nature's handiwork.

There are so many beautiful rivers and hills in this area that there has been a saying in China: the hills and rivers of Guilin is No. 1 in China. Yangshuo. Located at the terminus of the Li River cruise from Guilin, the small town of Yangshuo has long been a backpackers' mecca. In town, West Street (also called Foreigners' Street), is flanked with shops, bazaars, restaurants and cafes. Some of the most impressive karst scenery in Guangxi can be found just a short bike ride outside town. It remains a lovely and relaxing place to break a journey and to soak up some of China's most beautiful scenery.

Li River Cruise. Li River, as one of the most popular attractions in China can be found on every travel itinerary of Guilin. The river winds its way of over 430 kilometers (267 miles). The 83-kilometer (52-mile) waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo with its various karst peaks presents a breathtaking painting of mountain and river sceneries. Green mountains, peasant villages, verdant bamboos and water buffalos patrolling along the riverside create a stunning landscape. A river cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is a must for each traveler who comes to Guilin.

Reed Flute Cave

Reed Flute Cave. It is a splendid karst cave with a myriad of stalactites and stalagmites of all strange shapes. Located five kilometers (three miles) away from the city center in the northwestern suburb of Guilin, Reed Flute Cave is a wonderland of all sorts of stalactite, stone pillars and rock formations. A trip cruises about 500 meters (1,640 feet) in the cave by boat feast a tourist's eye with a spectacular world of stalactites and rock formations created by carbonate deposition. Illuminated by colored lights, the formations are presented in many variations and the scene is very fantastic. First officially opened to the public in 1962, the cave now is a main attraction in Guilin. It is an fantastic place where imagination will fly with strong wings. It is of course a must for all the visitors to Guilin.
